Alicia Gelinas, CPA, who has been serving as the Colorado Society of CPAs (COCPA) Chief Financial Officer and Educational Foundation of COCPA Executive Director since 2017, has been chosen by the Board of Directors as the organization’s next President and CEO, effective September 9, 2022.

Gelinas succeeds Mary E. Medley, IOM, who is retiring following a 48-year career with the Society.

“Like many of our 6,000+ members, the COCPA has been a beacon in navigating my career as a Colorado CPA. I am honored to be given the opportunity to engage our members, community leaders, and team to build upon the solid foundation established over the last 118 years to ensure the COCPA continues to be the professional home for accounting professionals,” Gelinas said. “Colorado communities depend on the accounting profession, which is why the COCPA’s passion to help people thrive personally and professionally through service and connection is so critical. I am fueled and energized by the COCPA’s passion as we drive forward into the future – as Colorado CPAs together.”

Gelinas is a proud alumna of the University of Denver and graduate of the AICPA Leadership Academy. After launching her career in audit with nine years at Ernst & Young LLP, Denver, Gelinas gained additional valuable experience in adjunct teaching, small business accounting, consulting, coaching, and nonprofit management. Her service in COCPA volunteer leadership roles on the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, Young Professionals Committee, and Educational Foundation Board of Trustees demonstrate her deep commitment to and understanding of the organization and the profession. Her experience will bring the COCPA continuity and stability in executing on COCPA strategies to remain the premier resource for Colorado accounting professionals.

Angela Roberts, CPA, COCPA Chair of the Board, said, in announcing the news, “We are very fortunate to name Alicia as our new President and CEO. Her 20 years of expertise and leadership in the profession will be invaluable for innovating the future of our profession. She is the right leader at the right time. Congratulations, Alicia!”
