Prior to receiving your license

You must complete and pass the Professional Ethics: The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Comprehensive Course (For Licensure) On-Demand course prior to receiving your Colorado CPA certificate.

After you receive your license

After the State Board of Accountancy issues you an active certificate, you are required to take the Colorado Board of Accountancy Statutes, Rules, and Regulations (CR&R) course within six months of licensure (or within six months prior to receiving your license). For your convenience, the COCPA offers in-person, live simulcast, and on-demand formats of the CR&R. For details on course dates and times, please visit our course catalog.

After your first license renewal

Once you have completed your ethics requirement for your first license renewal, you must take four hours of ethics, of which up to two hours may be in Colorado Board of Accountancy Statutes, Rules, and Regulations (CR&R), for your subsequent license renewals.

If you’re licensed in another state and want to obtain a Colorado certificate

You must complete and pass the Professional Ethics: The AICPA’s Comprehensive Course (PE) within two years immediately preceding the application date and two hours of Colorado Board of Accountancy Statutes, Rules and Regulations (CR&R) within six months immediately preceding or following the date the Board grants the initial certificate.
