To share thoughts as to how individuals can invest their money to overcome a rising cost of living in an environment of extremely low interest rates and volatile investment markets. In the presentation there will be a discussion of what is driving the low rate policy, where the hidden risks and opportunities exist, what flags CPAs might look for in reviewing client investment statements, and how investors might best navigate the current environment of slow economic growth, low rates and high uncertainty.
1) Assessment of the current global financial market environment;
2) What is driving the U.S.’s low rate policy (Fed policy, stability of US banking industry, concerns about impact of Eurozone, etc);
3) Where the hidden risks (e.g., Treasury securities) and opportunities exist (e.g., select dividend securities, precious metals, non-dollar securities, technology, real assets, etc.);
4) What flags CPAs might look for in reviewing client investment statements (e.g., how to think about the appropriate asset allocation and how to think about client’s diversification (both the hazards of over-diversification and concerns about highly concentrated portfolios)
